Habits of People Who have A Clean Home

May 13, 2022

Most of us don’t really enjoy cleaning our homes, but we do love the feeling of a clean home after a long day at work. Your mom’s standards for an orderly home may have involved many hours of cleaning, but today’s tidiest of families have found ways to incorporate small habits to make it easier to keep clean. What is the secret to a clean home? For the longest time I thought that it was just hard work and long hours of constant cleaning.

We have compiled a list of habits you can incorporate into you weekly routine to keep your house clean.

1 Start Your Day By Making Your Bed

Successful people start their day with the small tasks. If there is one thing in your day that you can control it is making your bed. It only takes a few minutes, but this easy task sets your day up for success. Here’s a quick video on just that from a Navy Admiral.

2 Tidy Up Around Your House As You Go

Did you try a couple of outfits before you head out the door? Before you leave the room, tidy up those things up by putting them away. Clean it up and put it away as you get ready. If you incorporate this into everything that you do throughout your day, there will be less for you to clean up when you get home tired.

3 Before You Walk Away, Wipe It Down

If you wipe down each surface before you walk away, it will leave nothing to clean up later. Surfaces that get dirty, often are the bathroom and kitchen. After getting ready wipe down the sink in your bathroom and wipe down the kitchen counters before you leave for the day. In the shower, you could wipe down the glass door before you finish washing up.

4 The Laundry Mountain, Wash Daily

Avoid overloading hampers by giving your washer a workout each day. This may not seem like enough when you have a house full of children. It’s one of those tasks that you can’t avoid, but instead of letting the hamper pile up. Grab what in the hamper and wash a small load each day. This will help to reduce the amount of laundry you need to tackle on Sunday afternoon.

5 Put Trash In The Proper Place

When you have children, it is unavoidable to not have a pile of trash to take out each week. Pick up those papers that are lying around the house and put them in the proper place. If it is bills, put them in your office on the incoming bill pile. Make a drawer for coupons for your next grocery run and throw the rest of the coupon page out in the recycling bin. Create folders for important items like bills, school memos and important printouts. Put them in the same place every time.

6 Donate What You Don’t Need Often

We are in a consumer driven society and stuff piles up often. Stuff is reeking havoc in homes across the United States. You most likely don’t need 10 water bottles, or 5 pocket books, or 20 pairs of shoes. There is a simple rule that will help you to funnel out the extra stuff you don’t need. If you have not touched that item in the past 6 or 12 months, then it is time to get rid of it. Instead of wasting time trying to get a handle on stuff, get rid of it and declutter your home or office.

7 Clean Your Fridge Weekly

Do you have that one item sitting in the back of the fridge that looks like it is something out of a horror movie? Seeing some scary goop under your groceries means you may not be doing it right. Give your fridge a weekly refresh. Throw out all of those old food items so the next time you run to the grocery you have an accurate list of what you really need.

8 Clean Up After Cooking

What type of cook are you? Do you resist the urge to clean up and leave a mess of pots and pans for later? While you are cooking each item, clean up as you go. Once you are doing mixing, cooking put each pan in the sink to soak for a few minutes. As you get closer to being done, wash up all of those items that don’t need to soak longer. Once those are done, go and enjoy dinner and come back later to put them away. They should be dry by then.

9 Straigten Up Before Bed

Do a quick sweep through the house in the most common rooms used by your family. These are all of the areas that things get left out. Pickup the toys, tidy the pillows on the couch, straighten up the shoes, and hang up the jackets. You’ll thank yourself in the morning.

Some of the most successful people in the world use some or all of these tactics to keep their home in order throughout the week.
